Charlottetown, PE – April 28, 2023 -- On May 6, Prince Edward Island and all people of the Commonwealth will recognize the Coronation of King Charles III and Queen Camilla.
King Charles III automatically became King of Canada upon the death of his mother, the late Queen Elizabeth II. While the Coronation is a symbolic religious ceremony steeped in tradition, it is also an opportunity to celebrate the beginning of His Majesty’s Reign. Government House will be illuminated in emerald green to mark the occasion on May 6 and 7, 2023.
To observe this historic event, Lieutenant Governor Antoinette Perry, staff and volunteers of Government House will celebrate the coronation on Saturday, May 6, 2023 at 11:00 am.
Activities will begin with a parade from the J. David Stewart Armoury to Government House where an outdoor public ceremony will be held. This is the first time our constitutional monarchy will recognize a new Monarch in 70 years.
The ceremony will conclude with a 21-gun salute fired from Fort Edward in Victoria Park. Following the salute, everyone is invited to join Her Honour for refreshments at an outdoor reception until 1:00 p.m. A tent will be set up.
Members of the PEI Regiment Band and the Confederation Centre Youth Chorus will help us celebrate during the ceremony and reception.
Please note: This is an outdoor event (please dress accordingly), open to the public and parking will be available in the Provincial Government parking lot. All persons wishing to view the ceremony at Government House are asked to be on the property by 10:30 a.m. Vehicle traffic on the property will not be permitted.
