June 23, 2021 - Her Honour, the Honourable Antoinette Perry, Lieutenant Governor of Prince Edward Island, will award a limited number of specially made "COVID Warrior Coins" commissioned by Dr. Trevor Jain to recognize Islanders or Island organizations who have made a significant contribution in their community during the COVID-19 pandemic.
A letter has been sent from Her Honour to each municipal council to help identify three extraordinary Island residents, organizations or businesses who have gone above and beyond to provide help or care to their fellow Islanders. Many people have given of themselves to enrich the lives of others by doing outstanding acts of goodwill. As community leaders, municipal councils know their residents best.
Local councils will submit their nominations to the Office of the Lieutenant Governor no later than July 18, 2021. Each submission will be carefully reviewed by an independent committee. Recipients of the award may choose to receive their award by mail or an in-person special ceremony, where COVID protocols permit.
At a later date, Islanders will also have the opportunity to nominate a friend, co-worker, family member, organization/business or member of their community for the COVID Warrior Coin award.
